Thankyou Dickie !


I am very very pleased to say that I just bought myself a lovely new cab.
It's an N reg Fairway Driver Plus, which belonged to a delightful chap living just up the road from me. Dickie has been driving it from new, and has clearly cherished it. Now, at the age of 80, he has decided to retire, and put his cab up for sale.

Handing over the keys was a bit emotional, but at least he will know that it will be well looked after, and will drive past his front door on a regular basis. It's a black one, no vinyl roof, doors are rust free, and the interior is in good condition. It was fully plated until September this year, so despite a flat battery, I'm pretty confident that its got lots of life left in it. Will update with photos etc shortly..

    When I started to read your blog, I felt sad when your old cab has been scrapped, and I kept on wishing that you find the car that fits you and your needs well. I know this is late, but still, congratulations on your new car. I’m glad you found it! You definitely had a good deal for this cab, as Dickie seems to be a very careful man. I hope you’re still enjoying the convenience that your car provides you and your family.

    I must say I have never encountered a service so bad and people so inconstant as black taxi drivers. Every time I get out at London Euston station going home from one of my trips to Manchester,I have to get a taxi from Euston station London taxi rank.

    With me I have 2 heavy luggage bags and the taxi drivers have never got out of the cab to help me with my bags. They just sit there and look at the screen and I have to lift my luggage bags in and out of the taxi by myself.

    That never happens with the local mini cabs who always help you with your luggage or shopping bags. That is with a mini cab or private car hire,they lift your bags in and out of the boot for you.

    But with black taxis they don't. Also I was turned away by several black taxis once even though it was raining,because they said they did not want to do a short £10 journey they wanted longer journey.

    No wonder black taxis have got such a bad name. That's why most people never use them they use mini cabs. I think it's disgusting that black taxi drivers won't help you with you bags or luggage. The last one I got into in Manchester refused to open the Window on a boiling hot day.

    I am will just be glad when I get back home and I can go back to using mini cabs. at least they treat you like a customer and not like an animal.
